Windows server 2008 R2 Installation on a laptop

By muddin ·
****,

I did install Windows server 2008 32 and 64 bit in my laptop, but when I try server 2008 R2 version with a similar laptop it says, ? A required CD/DVD drive device is missing, If you have a driver floppy disk,CD,DVD? please insert it now?. I was told I need 64bit hardware in order to install 2008 R2. Please confirm if this the case.

R2 did drop the support for x86, so unless your laptop is x64 or Itanium 2 processor, you may be stuck running it in virtual-hard-drive mode.

Not sure how speedy your laptop is, but I cannot imagine running a 64bit server OS on top of hyper-V on a laptop. That's like flying to the moon in a Ford Escort....
