I haven’t done this personally, but VB 6.0 & 5.0 has a winsock.ocx control, as well as a tutorial for programming it. It works w/TCP & UDP, you designate which port to use. You have to write two programs, a client & a server.
This is also one of those VB licensed controls, which means you have to buy a license to distribute it, or purchase a third party control. There’s a patch on the MS site, VB6CLI.exe, that supposedly gives you a license to use this program. I haven’t had a chance to use it, & am unsure what it actually does.

It shouldn’t matter what your media is; wireless, infrared, or CAT5, as long as it adheres to the 802 std., & your can bind to it.

john, thx 4 replying, i had used the winsock control 2, but my problem lies on how to “read the data from the access point”. it contain very important info like signal strength etc.
so i can use it to determine the exact location of the wirelessdevice within the range.
