Window’s Start up!!

by maggot . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

Is this just a “Window’s” thing? Or is something evil afoot?

Operating system is Windows 98 SE. with IE 6.0 with SP1 installed.

The OS sometimes at start up will freeze during the “splash” screen, I “re-start” and I have run both step by stepconfirmation and command prompt only. So far the Os runs after this and is fine for a period of time.

The virus scanner shows no infection and definitions are current. Anti-virus installed is Norton 2002 and installed fire wall is Norton PersonalFirewall 2003.

I have not added any hardware or made any changes to software CFGs. i.e.:video card, cd Rom etc.

The only recent change has been a “Critical Update” from the Microsoft “Windows Update” which was a Java Script Update. It was recommend by Microsoft on the site to provide protection for a vulnerbility in the outdated Java version installed on this system.

Skip driver shows a USB device not starting, but that has always been there. I don’t have any USB ports in use anyway.
Please advise.
