Which printer model/make is it?
Have you tried a newer printer driver? There may be issues with older driver.

Some printers need a new driver when XP has been updated to SP2. Check the producent web page for your printer.

SP2 frequently kills off printing services and requires reinstallation of the printer drivers. The problem is that you must completely uninstall everything first.

After uninstalling all printer related programs in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, remove any related files in the Program Files directory plus any related entries in the Registry.

If you still have problems, check the tech support for your pc for complete uninstall techniques. If it is HP, click the Add Comment button and I will gladly post the procedure.
