Windows Update Question

By theiqa ·
Just set up 6 new Win XP Pro machines on our Netware Network. I have them each setup to receive (download and install)updates automatically every night at 3:00.

But the icon in the system tray keeps popping up saying updates are ready to be installed.

Why weren't they installed automatically?

You need to reboot.

When you reboot, they will download and install for you.

I haven't researched this yet, but I believe what happens is, if the downloaded files require a reboot, they won't install until you do so.

Otherwise, I am under the assumption that they will dl and install automagikally...

Update answer - maybe

by Dennis.Rhine In reply to Windows Update Question

If the users are setup in the Administrator group on the local machine then Windows Update will download the updates and then wait until you give the word to install. If the user is setup in the Users group then they install automatically. One caveat - if they start to install and need to reboot the user will need to close all programs and allow that reboot. The window will not close without rebooting.
