I had a hard drive fail and had to reinstall Win 98SE on a white box system. When I launch Windows Update, the IE launches and a dialog box pops up that says “Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page. As a resultthe page may not display correctly.” The only option is to hit “OK”. The Windows Update screen comes up, but in big bold letters on the right side of the screen, it says “Administrators Only”. It continues “To install items from Windows Update, you must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group.” This is Win98SE. Even is I log on to my LAN as administrator, I get the same thing.
I reset all of my ActiveX controls to “enable”, and as a result I don’t get the ActiveX message but I still get the Administrator thing.
