Windows Vista and XP Network problem

By everhart91 ·
I just got a laptop using Vista and am having trouble seeing the XP Computer on the network. I have temp disconnected the firewalls. I can see and access the vista computer from the XP. I don't see the XP on the Vista Machine. If I map the network drive it is there but dose not show up on view computers and devices. I have tried everything I could find on the net. Installed the hotfix for XP service pak 3. Any suggestions?

But I never really investigated it... I had the same issue, I just created shortcuts on the desktop... \\Machine_Name\ ... this will show you all the shares on the machine. It doesn't fix the problem, but it is a work around.

You need to run the Home Network Wizard on the XP machine

That will allow you to set up File and Printer Sharing and will allow the Vista machine to see and access the XP machine. Now if you want to access/see the Vista machine on the XP machine you need to enable Public Folder Sharing along with File and Printer Sharing (if you want to share a printer).
