windows vista ping problem

By coykiam ·
Hi guys I have MS Windows Vista Business Edition, here's my situation I can ping localhost and can go the internet, such as yahoo and any other websites with no problem. But when I try to ping it, it says "Request Time Out," Is there any security built in to Vista that is blocking it? I checked and it says Windows firewall is off, but its controlled thru a group policy. Other clients on the same network that is running XP/2000 can ping external IPs with no problem. Help please?

Thanks in advance

You may have another firewall active blocking ICMP type..

.. packets. Run services.msc at the run box on the start menu and see what is running.

Have you verified your machine is on the same network segment as the other PC's? You may actually have access through a wireless access point that could be blocking ICMP pings.

Go to the Command line by typing CMD in the run box, then type "ipconfig /all" and note the IP of your default gateway. Try to ping it from the command line. If it works, try another internal IP in the building. After that try an internet major node like (many techs know this IP since its easy to remember amidst all the other stuff we have to know..)

To miss-quote a dude who used to be famous:
Keep pinging till ya can't stop, till ya get enough, uhuh! :-)
