We use Windows 2000 in conjunction with Novell’s ZENworks. This allows our users to roam to any PC within the organisation, and to download their windows profile from the network when they login. A typical windows profile is 2-3Mbyte, although they can grow to very large sizes. We keep the size down by diverting many of the windows config etc to the network drive.
We’re looking to move to XP/Vista/linux (still to be decided), and the profile download time is a key factor, as this affects login time from remote (low bandwidth) sites.
Does anyone have any measurements of Windows Vista profile sizes – are they bigger than Windows 2000? What about Windows XP profiles – what are they like?
