Windows Vista Wireless Connection Problem “LOCAL ONLY”

by radhaz . Updated 17 years, 5 months ago

I have a Windows XP Home network utilizing a Linksys WRT54G Router. The router is connected to an HP Pavilion desktop running Windows XP. The router is also connected to a SBC DSL modem. At this time I can connect a HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook running Windows XP successfully to the wireless router (via 802.11G).

I have purchased a new Compaq notebook running Windows Vista. I can connect to the home network router. I can actually get to the Admin connection of the router. However, I cannot connect to the internet. My connection shows “Local Only”. After 3 hours on the “Tech Support” line with HP (via India) the technician told me that my DSL service was down.

Can someone please explain to me what I have to do to get the #$#^%@*^%$ Vista computer up on the existing and working network?

Thanks,
Bill M
