I have just finished installing my new hardware to upgrade my computer to a core2quad system. The transition was smooth, no static shocks or damage to anything. My problem is this ….
Windows wouldn’t start, no surprise there .. but when I tried to do a repair install of the Windows (XP Pro) it would only go as far as Setup is starting Windows …. Nothing more happens no matter how long I leave it.
The system is ..
Asus P5Q Pro motherboard
Intel Q8200 CPU
2 new Kingston DDR2 800 RAM.
That’s the new hardware. Already existing hardware is
2 DVD/RW
Seagate 160GB SATA (Windows Drive)
Seagate 250GB SATA (storage only)
Leadtek PCiE 512MB (VGA)
720W power supply to power it all
I have tried swapping the RAM to another computer, no problems there… Tried putting different RAM in my computer… no change, problem is still there. Have tried disconnecting the second DVD/RW and second HDD, the problem persists.
I also tried a different Windows install CD, still the problem remains.
Any ideas out there to get this thing going?
Problem solved. After having a good think about it, and looking at the various plug configurations on the power supply I simply changed to the 8pin plug (see enlargement here http://www.asus.com.au/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=709&l4=0&model=2269&modelmenu=2) and all is well and working. As for SATA drivers, if you were familiar with the newer ASUS mainboards especially, you would know that no longer during setup is the F6 required to install SATA drivers from floppy disk. Thanks for the help.
