Windows XP Activation

Traditionally and even with Office XP, you have been able to install the software on your desktop as well as your portable. I have heard conflicting reports that this OS will not allow you to do an installation on both. They say one PC period. Can someone tell me if this is true, or if it allows you activation on a PC and on a laptop, as Office XP does?
