Windows XP Authntication

By fore.boser ·
I have a Hard Drive bay installed in my computer and at the present time I have one rack dual booted with Win.98 and Win.98SE. I would like to load Win.XP on a seperate hard drive and put it on a seperate rack. My question is, would this affect the activation requirments that XP demands by interchanging the hard drives? Thank You.

From all that I have read the activation happens is you install new hardware on a grand scale, that is, at one time more memory, cmos change, cpu, another hard drive, etc. But I have read that if you make one change and then wait a 120 days you don't have to reactive.

Should not be a problem, as long as XP always sees the same drives and other hardware.

PCWorld had a review of activation. They found that adding new hardware never caused an activation request. If there is a network card in the system, you canchange up to 4 devices without causing an activation request.

And by default, XP does reset the change counter after 120 days of stable hardware.
