Windows 98 you could attempt to edit the Config file or better still use something like System Commander to create a Dual Boot Option.

Try this:

Set bios to boot from D.
Win XP will display a boot menu.
Choose your Operating system.
OS boots.

Use the Recovery Console

Boot to the XP CD.
Choose the first R option.
Type 1 for the XP install, enter the Admin password (if there is one).At the prompt type;
bootcfg /rebuild
This should install the necessary files onto the C: drive (NTLdr,NTDetect, & Boot.ini).
