Windows xp boot up

My computer will not boot without the instalation disk. Just started doing this a few days ago. Why?

before this happened did you do anything to the boot.ini?

Go into the BIOS and make sure that your computer is actually detecting the harddrive if not try resetting it, itll reboot then go back into the BIOS and see if is detected.

also i know this sounds dumb but make sure you dont have a floppy disk it the machine, by default alot of machines will be set to boot off floppy.

If you moved a lot of drivers from sys32 best would be to reinstall whole system since nobody can tell what's gone.if you had some important files do not repartition,leave the current file system intact and choose different folder for your root folder when setup reports that windows folder exists.And of course follow what sysadmin has writen about BIOS.
