Windows XP will boot install onto a new "WD 400BB" same is true for a "WD 400JB" hard drive, but will not make the hard drive bootable, "XP works great" but is only bootable from CD, virus is off, boot sequence is (A: HD CD), restore command's will not make it bootable (another level of learning), do I have to boot from a floppy and then run the setup? I have read that there are 147 steps to installing XP, Why?

To clarify, you have run the WD program to format and partition your drive? Then you try to install Windows XP? Once XP is installed, even with the floppy out of the drive and no cd in the CDROM drive it won't boot to the hard drive. Is this correct?
I got it, so if anyone has to know the steps for formating a new ntfs drive, and installing windows xp pro, from a bootable xp pro cd; I have the answer. The cable, hard drive jumper, the data lifeguard tools (Ontrack), the boot sequence, when to change the boot sequence, and the commands in the recovery console and that is my answer. Good luck.
