Windows XP File Encription Key Lost

I have encrypted alot of files using the encryption that comes with windows xp (right click folder, properties, advanced, encrypt…etc).
One day I needed to restore my copy of windows after it crashed and noticed that my encrypted files would not decrypt because my system has lost the encryption key.

Am I able to recover my encrypted files at all?
