Windows XP First Boot Problems

Hello All –

Installed Windows XP Pro on a new system this afternoon. Install went fine, but after installation the first boot had problems. Everything looks fine through the splash screen (the one that says Windows XP with the small blue progress bar). However, after that screen it goes to black and stays there forever, or at least 45 minutes. Restarting the system didn’t help. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what could be the cuase of the problem?
