I have a laptop using Windows XP Home, and it has some serious hang issue upon trying to load active desktop. It passes the initial Windows XP welcome logo, but then goes to a black screen with only the mouse pointer showing up on screen. I’ve tried using CHKDSK /r in Windows Repair mode from the disk to see if the volume had errors, it found and fixed some but problem is still present. I also tried repairing the installation with Repair from the CD by replacing system files, but it would not even recognize a previous installation of windows, it just shows the available NTFS partition. I’ve read that reinstalling is the best option for this type of issue. I also tried using MiniPE XT standalone CD to run defrag tool and a few other utilities to see if that wouldn’t help, no avail however. Help please!!!
