You instruct you antivirus to remove the virus. No need to modify the registry.

or, to get rid of the problem permanently, get rid of the virus masqerading as an os, windoze.

put a real os on it.

if this message appears on a website, it's a scam advertising gimick.
if your antivirus is telling you about it, let the antivirus clean the system.

Was it asking YOU whether it was a virus? What options did it give you?

Or was it telling you it *is* a virus? (Does it tell what type of trojan it is?)

Stu

If you have a specific name, you can probably get a remover for it (the Symantec site is a good place to get info and removers for specific virus's/trojans)

Alternatively, it could be a glitch with Nortons 2005, and something on your system - have you done a search of the Norton 2005 site to see if there are any known issues?

Boot in safe mode then turn off System Restore and then perform a AV Scan. With a minimal set of drivers installed and running it should be possible to remove the offending file.

Failing that as you have Norton's 2005 AV you can make a note of the name of the Virus/Trojan and look up the Symantec Site for a specific removal tool or method.

Worst case scenario is that you'll have to reload but try the above first and then if that is still showing a error try running System Mechanic over the drive you can download a 30 day trial version from

http://www.iolo.com/sm/5/index.cfm

and then if you still have no joy you should look up the Symantec Wed Site for any known problems with 2005 and your OS, it just might be a false report that can be altered by running a patch from Symantec.

When all else fails you'll have to backup all your data which you should be doing already and wipe the HDD and reload from scratch to cure the problem while that is the last option remember that you have to run a Utility that writes 0's to every sector as just removing the Partition and reformatting will still 2 of every 3 sectors of the HDD untouched and the problem could arise again.
