Windows XP home VS Pro

By bprats ·
I just purchased a Sony VAIO FXA36 for a very good price and because it had Windows XP. My previous choice for a Pro laptop was a Dell 8100. My work involves Windows NT and 2000 networks and software develoopment so at first this looked like a good deal. XP and Office XP is great so far.

But questions come up, just what is the difference between XP Home and XP Pro editions ?

My concern is the difference from Win2000 network setup and XP network setup, the apparent lose of Personal Web Server.

Without even logging into my 2000 server, after installing the network IP addresses into XP and doing a Explorer server search, bingo, there was my 2000 server hard drives with full access!

Any info appreciated in these areas, IP, network attachment, security, personal web server.

Thanks in advance.

Minor Differences

by groberts In reply to Windows XP home VS Pro

XP Home features an auto-login, Pro does not have this "feature". or Gaping security hole as I call it. There are also a few subtle behind the scenes diffences, mostly dealing with networking.

As far as Personal Web Server is concerned, it's gone. All XP boxes now use IIS 5.0. Personally, I think this is an improvement.

Hope this helps.
