Windows XP installed programs list

By foo.fanshui ·

I have a revelation I would like to share with you
As you know the win install list gets populated every time a user instals software on the system. I was looking for a method to hide an installed program from a scan which bases on the "installed programs list".
Apparently there is a possibility to do it with almost every registry editor.
What happens is the program disapears from the list. However I do not wish to uninstal it physically from the drive.
Then I ran the program, and terminated it normally - no issues.

However afterwards I noted that my installed programs have the mentionned program *again*, just without the possibility to "uninstall".

Is there any clean method to get rid of the program from the registry but still have it on the disk and be able to use it?

Some programs are not in Registry

by OldER Mycroft In reply to Windows XP installed prog ...

and that is only because they do not call upon system resources in order to function correctly. However, most of the programs listed in the registry, call upon shared resources for their successful running.

Why would you want to interfere with this?

Chances are, if your registry entry is removed, the program will fail to run. Then you won't have to worry about whether it is scanned or not - because it won't run anyway.

To take your discussion to its logical extent - why not just delete the entire registry?

Why not? - Because your entire system would be unable to co-exist, and would stop.

Lesson for the day: If it ain't broke - don't fix it.

Remove from Add/Remove?

by CaptBilly1Eye In reply to Windows XP installed prog ...

Is your goal simply to remove a listing from the Add/Remove Programs list without actually uninstalling the program?

If so, the tool I use is called 'Add Remove Manager.' It is a free tool offered by Singer's Creations (the makers of WeatherWatcher!): http://tinyurl.com/28z255

It's also handy for removing a program's listing from Add/Remove programs if it stubbornly remains after the program is uninstalled.

I hope this helps.
