windows xp joining the domain

we have nt4.0 lan with a defined domain. we have laptops with XP pro. These laptops gets a dns error trying to join the domain. how do i resolve this problem?? To complicate the problem l configured a winxp workstation and was able to join the domain with no problem.
Please advise!!

  You need to specifiy the Name server under WINS on the XP Laptops. When you try to join the domain, use the Netbios name, not the DNS name
