windows XP networking with Vista and win 2003

I have a problem with internet access after I purchased my windows Vista laptop . I have a Netgear Router on Windowns XP PC that worked fine and communicated well with my Win 2003 laptop , No interuptions or slow down . Now I have a second laptop with Windows Vista and the internet communication slows down or stops at the PC or the laptops . The communication with the router is at 100% and the problem mostly goes away when the router and the modem at the PC are shot off and restarted . Does anyone know what is causing this problem ? I am aware of some XP networking problems when upgrading to Vista but I am not sure what to do and how to resolve my internet connection problems at this point. Any advise will be appreciated.

If you go into the network icon and then properties and look for a box with something like "power down when not needed". Please post back if you have any more problems.

Thanks for such a quick response. do I do this at the host XP Pc or at the Vista laptop?
