windows xp not logging in

By bigurt ·
I've tried rebooting into safe mode and boot from last known good configuration and I've also tried to run a restore from my xp cd, which didn't boot from the cd for some reason. It just stayed at the screen "press any key to boot from CD" Any help would be awesome

it sounds like your onboard drive controller/s may be faulty or the bios may have become corrupt, or heavin forbid you've picked up a bootsector virus.
to possibaly fix the drive controller/s and or bios try flashing the bios with a current revision
if that doesn't work you could try restoring the mbr (master boot record), the best way that i've found is to first, slave the hdd to a functioning system, that has a current and active antivirus, back up your data, then restore the hdd in the system it came from, boot off, say, a win98se boot floppy and use fdisk to first rewrite the mbr, restart the pc run fdisk again and create a new primary partition, restart the pc again and then try installing winxp off your installation cd, yes i know the partition would then setup under fat32, but this does seem to work at 75% of the time for me, once you get the xp cd loading again you can repartition the hdd under ntfs if so desire, otherwise, if none of this works then what you're really at is a faulty mainboard, which needs replacing

I have a weird situation that I can?t seem to find a solution to, I recently had a Motherboard die on me and I went out and upgraded to an ASUS A7N8X-E. Anyway when I plugged the hard drive back in and booted the computer. It boots all the way up to where I can see the XP Pro. Boot Screen and then it restarts and asks for Safe mode Screen. I?ve tried all the Safe modes and Last Known Good Configuration and nothing is working. I?ve even gone in and tried to restore the MBR. I didn?t get too far because I am unable to backup the current MBR and the drive is using Partition Magic 7. So I?m worried about loosing the other Partitions if I go that route. Anyone have an idea as to what is going on and how can I fix it?

Have not yet figured it out yet, but am working on the problem as are others. Either a boot sector virus or a problem caused by the latest MS patches ( &/or the latest IE Patch). Look for later post XP won't start for more info.
