I have just “re-built” a machine after a hard drive failure. Fortunately no data lost due to full and good back-ups.
I have re-installed Win XP Pro, and downloaded all the latest updates/patches. After completing the last lot of downloads on 11 Jan 08, the task manager generates a message saying the DEP has prevented this program from running. It then creates a memory dump and error report and shuts itself down.
I have solved the problem by disabling DEP for the task manager, but somehow this doesn’t seem right.
I have three or four machines running XP Pro with very similar configurations and exactly the same update status.
Any ideas what causes this problem and what to do about it (other than selectively turning off DEP for the task manager)??
Any ideas would be appreciated.
