Windows XP pro login problem

I’ve just recently installed Windows XP pro on my home computer. when i enter in my password on the login screen and hit enter, i’m taken to the welcome screen where shortly afterwards the computer locks up and a high pitched beeping sound comes from my speakers. any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
