Windows XP Pro SP3 will not load. Shuts down and tries to boot

Need help.

System: Windows XP Pro SP3
Asus A8V Deluxe mobo
Corsair TWINNX1024-32C2PT 1GB DDR400
ATI Radeon ALL-IN-WONDER 960XT
HD Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 500GB (Internal SATA)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2GB
Plextor 716A DVD R/RW Internal E-IDE ATAPI
500 Watts ATXA8NW-AL Aspire.

Two days ago I decided to run chkdsk via ‘system tools’ option. The system gave me the option to get it done next time I would re-star my PC. I clicked ok. Upon reboting Windows XP would not boot past the Wondows XP logo. I can see the bar with the blue lights. It then shuts off and restarts again but Windows never loads. This goes on enlessly.

I tried to boot up in ‘safe mode’, also to the last working configuration, etc but nothing works. Windows is in an endless cycle of trying to reboot.

I configured my BIOS to bootup from the cd and inserted the my Windows CD. I pressed “R”. This did not work either as I get the screen telling me “Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer” but the drive (Seagate 500GB) is connected and they are well. I tried different known good SATA cables. There is no problem with the hard drives as I removed them and plugged them into a housing and from there to another PC via USB and the drive works great.

How can I fix this problem WITHOUT having to format the drive and reinstall windows?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
