Windows Xp Pro usb Keyboard issue

by jrpackjr . Updated 17 years, 9 months ago

First I just build my first computer the other week every thing was fine up to right after I installed windows xp pro. After it was finished I just shut it down using only the mouse and never tried the keyboard until the next time.

Problem:
I cannot get any response from the keyboard after xp finishes logging (luckily I did not set any users or passwords up before hand) in the keyboard will not work at all. I have tried 3 usb KBs and 1 PS/2 non-work once windows is up and running.

I can use the KB before windows goes through the steps of finding, and installing new hardware connected to the usb port. After it goes through that it says hardware installed and then gives me an error message and says the hardware may not function properly, at this point the keys no longer have any response to typing.

Other things I’ve read while searching for an answer:
update drivers: have updated every driver I that I am aware of.
Does it work in BIOS: yes it does work in BIOS
Is legacy turned on: yes I have tried with it on and off
Check for virus/spyware: I never had it connected to the internet until I had loaded the the anti-virus software and then let windows update along with the anti-virus software ( I have not run a full scan again since I realized the KB was not working though I have not had any alerts to an harmful software in the computer)
the only other thing I have come across (which was today while sitting here at work). Is that possible the keyboard software drivers and microsoft’s KB drivers are canceling each other out. I saw this one on another site though it did not say if that was the actual problem in the end. I have a logitech G15 KB only going on a week old that I am trying to use (mouse is also a logitech) and I do have the software installed for them.

Any ideas would be great. Also how would I fix the problem of the 2 KB drivers running and causing neither to work, so that I can see if that is the case in my situation.

Again thanks for any help since this is the first system that I’ve build completely by myself, so I’m still a rookie at this. And sorry for the long post.
