Windows XP professional @ internal modem

I have windows XP professional installed on several IBM thinkpad laptops and AOL 7.0 installed. All the installations were done at the same time/date. I have logged onto the internet
using AOL several times on each system. Now, all systems have developed a problem with the internal modem. The message is: Modem Internal Error mwme001:modem internal error primary code:05 secondary code:105 file:mwmwin.c.

Can you assist me with this problem?
I have used the system restore feature in XP to restore to a different point in time. But, the error comes back after I logon to AOL and logoff then try to logon again. Oh! by the way, I have disabled the automatic update to microsoft.
