Windows XP Security

By joezep1 ·
I have several drives on a remote machine and I need to share out a directory only to a few folks on one drive and to a few others access to another drive but to the whole drive not just a directory. Is this relatively easy to do?
Of course the computer name / IP is the same but there are the various drives and drive letters...Any help for a fairly new-bee would be appreciated. Have a great day! : )

Thank You for your time.

By default, simple file sharing is enabled, you need to turn that off

After you turn off simple file shareing

by Dumphrey In reply to Windows XP Security

you will have a securities tab on properties for each share. The most common practice is to allow the everyone at minimum read permissions in SHARE permissions (on sharing and security tab). And the use the NTFS permissions to give permissions to allow access. Now, if you know exactly what shares you need to give access to, assign permissions on these shares. Sharing out the whole drive can be sketchy if its an OS disk... please be careful.
Look into this and post back if you have any questions about permissions.
