Windows XP: Service Pack 2 (Uninstalled)

By lagcaoili ·
My windows update fails after installing Service Pack 2. I wasn't able to update .Net patches. I went to Add/Remove and uninstalled Service pack 2 and now my IE is toasted. My brower is dead. I download Firefox as my browser and tried to install IE 6 and the IE setup fail. Is there still hope to install IE and have my windows update working again?

Do an in-place recovery of Windows XP.

Replace all service packs afterwards.

Also, even if you decide to use Firefox, you will still need to use I.E. for Windows Updates, so don't get rid of I.E.

Thank you very much for the solution. I did a repair to my Windows XP Pro and was able to do Windows Update and browse the internet via IE. This was a big help because I didn't have to install any of my original programs.

Unfortunately, I have two critical updates that
failed. They are Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 SP1 and Microsoft .Net Framework 1.0 SP3. At this time, the system tried to install Windows XP SP 2 but failed.

Do you have any solutions?
