Windows XP: Service Pack 2 (Uninstalled)

My windows update fails after installing Service Pack 2. I wasn’t able to update .Net patches. I went to Add/Remove and uninstalled Service pack 2 and now my IE is toasted. My brower is dead. I download Firefox as my browser and tried to install IE 6 and the IE setup fail. Is there still hope to install IE and have my windows update working again?
