Windows XP Service Pack Install Interrupted

By ebraunfeld ·
I was in the middle of installing Windows Service Pack 2 on my Compaq laptop and it hung up. I had no choice but to shut down the PC. Now whenever I turn it on it keeps rebooting itself over and over each time asking if I want to boot in normal, safe, etc. mode - nothing makes a difference!
I cannot stop it in anyway other than to turn off the power. I am at a loss as to what I can do to fix this problem.
Thank you.

Without knowing all the details, here is a Microsoft KB article that talks about the Recovery Console

This may help as well if you have a scanner installed.

because some system files were changed, while others were not. Best idea is to run a repair with the original cd. If not, you may need to backup/reload
