Windows XP, Simple File Sharing and Limited User Accounts

by baobab68 . Updated 17 years, 10 months ago

I have inherited the maintenance of our SOE platform from my predecessor.

We’re running Windows XP Professional and a Novell Directory, and I’ve created several new builds for new models of PC as they come in the door.

The latest one though, has me stumped. It has to fit into one of our environments which *requires* Simple File Sharing. I know my predecessor had a lot of trouble getting this to work, and I had presumed he had added his method to our build script, but it seems not.

What I’m having trouble with is this:

– build machine with vanilla XP SP2
– log on as Admin and share D: drive partition using Simple File Sharing
– log on as a limited user account and that user can’t even see that the sharing has even been done. If the User attempts to share the drive themself, all the checkboxes are greyed out on the Sharing and Security tab.

What am I missing? All the sites I’m reading state that vanilla XP should be able to do this.I’ll bet it’s something really simple that I’ve forgotten.
