Windows XP slave drive

By jcaldwell234 ·
I have Windows XP on my computer. I installed a 2nd harddrive in the computer that has data and files that I would like to copy onto the Xp harddrive, I have done all required steps with disk manager but am unable to assign a drive letter to the 2nd harddrive. Can anyone help me to get the information from drive 2 to drive 1?

Try to use the software wizard for that hard drive if available, and if not download the specific wizard from the hard drive manufacturer web site. I have winxp pro and two hard drives one is set as slave and is used for the paging file, check also my question to see if u can help.

Are both drives detected in BIOS?

You may need to enable the IDE channel that the second drive is connected to.

Also, triple check the master/slave jumpers on BOTH drives.
Many drives need to be setup different for single and master with slave present.

You might need to connect the second drive to the other IDE cable.
I have seen situations where different brand drives do not get along well on the same cable.
