Windows XP sound

By ecthelion ·
I have no sound coming from the Operating System.
Under Sounds in the control panel, a scheme is selected, the sound card works, I can play music, but no windows sounds. How do I fix this?

This "sounds" weird

In the Control Panel Sounds menu are the appropriate sound events enabled? i.e. do they have the little speaker icons next to them?
As you're obviously aware, you can play CDs independently of your Windows sounds setup.
I'd run "sfc /scannow" to make sure your Windows files are intact.

Have you found a fix for this? I'm having the same problem. none of my system sounds work, but I can play mp3s, watch video, play games, stream music.

have you looked at the sound profile to see if the current one is set to no sounds
