Windows XP SP2

By Straight View ·
I installed winxp Pro + sp2 recently knowing all what i read that microsoft has acheived a milestone!.The intallation was clean but now svchost.exe keeps on crashing and one peculiar thing I am not able to access the internet. IE options are correct. my LAN connection is OK. Even it is Pinging to the DNS server. First I thought "Windows Firewall" may be blocking outbound traffic but then the popup should have come that also is not the case.
Note : I have win 2000 Pro. dual installed with winXP.
Any suggestions !!

So your defentally connected to the network, but your browser is telling you otherwise? First go and look to see if your browser is trying to use a proxy server. This is usually over-looked. As far as svchost.. Its hard to pinpoint the problem, this service is used in many different ways, and without knowing what is accessing it when it hangs, it gets difficult to troubleshoot.

Another thing, try a "repair" on your lan connection. This will flush the ARP tables ect.. And might just be the kick it needs.

No Problem here with SP2 Yet

by Samuel C. In reply to Windows XP SP2

My Thinkpad comes with XP Pro and I updated with SP2 a few weeks ago. I use WIFI Wireless often and I found improvements with Firewall etc...
Glad to hear about Problems from others.
By the Way Hebrew is not included yet and Windows Media Player 9 lost the Hebrew Interface.

by Samuel C. In reply to No Problem here with SP2 ...

I tried to install with Hebrew but I got a message saying that I can not Install on my XP Pro. I do not mind as I prefer menus in English.
