Windows XP Standalone and Group Policy

by daniel.wilkie . Updated 21 years, 3 months ago

I have been setting up some standalone machines for one of our clients, which have a group policy applied to restrict the user account. To prevent the administrator account we use (not administrator) from being locked down too, I have denied that user read access to the gpt.ini file. That bit all works, and the restriction works also.

However the problem I have is this. The Administrator account is restricted, this I expect. However, the user account is not… Its a standalone and so I don’t think you can change what group policies are applied to which account like you can in AD.

Has anybody got any ideas, I’m sure its just something obvious I’m missing, but its driving me insane!

If it makes a difference, the group policy was copied in in the form of registry.pol into the GroupPolicy\Users folder.
