Windows XP Updates cause Booting Failure

By PBelisle ·
Today, I downloaded Windows XP updates, which require a reboot. After doing so, my PC would not boot fully. I could see the desktop icons, the start menu, and quick launch icons, but clicking on any of these would not work.

Almost like Windows stopped booting mid-stream.

I guess I'd be considered a novice, so, if you can help me sort this issue, so I can get back to work... I'd greatly appreciate it.

updates from microsoft windows nowadays causes a lot of problems and headaches, that's why im not trying to update my pc (maybe i'll try it some other time).

btw, here's what u are going to do, and i hope it works on you.

1. restart your pc, then hit F8 key to go to boot menu.

2. in the boot menu, select, "Last Good Known Configuration", then wait for the windows to start up.

if it doesn't work, try System Restore.

The "Last Good Known Configuration" seems to have done the trick! Thanks so much... I am able to continue working today and not lose any time fiddling with the PC.

Thanks again!!!
