windows xp updates

By pharper9 ·
I RECENTLY DID A RECOVER ON MY PC AND ALL OF THE WINDOWS XP UPDATES WERE LISTED AS NEEDING TO BE INSTALLED....WHEN I TRIED TO INSTALL THEM I RECEIVE A WINDOWS LOGO TESTING ERROR AND THE UPDATE WILL NOT INSTALL...IS THIS BECAUSE THE UPDATES ARE ALREADY THERE? OR DO I NEED TO DO SOMETHING SPECIAL?

My bet would be that you have a less than genuine copy of XP, probably a corporate licence version that has been given or sold to you. Microsoft has a list of licenced copies that have been released to the open (pirate) market, and has closed out the option to upgrade for them.

If this is the case, you will need to buy a genuine copy, and contact Microsoft to update your product identification.

If you have a legal and genuine version, please disregard all of the above!

THE WINDOWS XP SOFTWARE WAS PRE-INSTALLED ON MY COMPUTER WHEN I BOUGHT IT.

Windows LOGO testing usually applies only to device drivers. Not updates from Microsoft.

As to if you need the updates, I would say yes.
Unlike W9X, when you install XP over itself, it automatically replaces updated files with the original version.

Start by manually downloading and installing Service Pack 1.

If that does not work, I suspect that you still have a remnant of whatever problem caused you to want to re-install XP.
