Windows XP w/SP2 & Compact Flash

By eM DuBYaH ·
I have an e-Machine 6805 with a CF slot. I am trying to install a GlobalSat CF GPS. Windows will ONLY recognize & try to configure it as a mass storage device. I've uninstalled the CF drivers that come with Windows, and install the GPS driver, but it's a no go. I need to findout how to disable the default CF drivers so I can use the GPS drivers instead. (and no E-Machine support was no help either)

Browsing the user manual for the BC 307 GPS system, I believe that your problem is the hardware in the built-in card reader on your e-Machine.

In order to use the GPS features on the BC 307, you must use Globalsat's PCMCIA to CF adapter.

It is not a driver issue so much as a "firm-ware" issue.
Basically, the CF reader on your e-Machine is set up to only function as a mass storage device reader / writer.
On a "pocket PC" or PDA, the CF slot has required "firm-ware" that allows the additional functions of special CF cards to be accessed and used.

The optional PCMCIA to CF adapter that Globalsat offers is needed to add the ability to use special function CF cards on a standard notebook PC.
