Windows XP will not record to CD-RW.

By BigCheif ·
I installed a new cd-rw on mp XP-Pro system. Nero will write to the drive ok but the windows features that come with xp do not work. I found the article at Microsoft support that told me how to change the Reg file for burning drive from 3 to 2 for aCD-RW drive. I now get the recording tab in the properties of that drive but when i past something to that drive and then click "write to drive" it says insert disk. I already have a disk in the drive and I know the disk are ok because nero will burn to them.

Just like the floppies of old, CD-RW disks need to be formatted before you can use them.

Nero comes with software to perform this task.

You cannot use a CD-R disk as a CD-RW disk, they are different.

Nero will burn to a CD-RW disk just likea CD-R, and you can format these disks to erase them.
