Windows2000 w/ IE 5.5 printing problem

By DazednConfuzed74 ·
I have Windows2000 and IE 5.5 (with SP1). I am unable to Print or Print Preview ANY webpages. All the comes up is the header and footer information. I have uninstalled IE and reinstalled it. I have uninstalled it, cleared all the keys from registry and reinstalled IE 5.5. I have tried different printers, local and network, different manufacterers. Also have tried downloading new printer drivers for the printers from their sites. Nothing is resolving this issue. Can someone give me some suggestions? Thanks.

Here's an MSDN article that describes the same symptoms:

The nut is to make sure CSS is enabled.

Microsoft acknowledges this as a known issue with Internet Explorer AND Outlook Express. Unfortunately they only offer a workaround which goes as follows:

To work around this behavior, disable the Auto-Select option for encoding. To do
so, on the View menu, point to Encoding, and then click to clear Auto-Select.

It may also have something to do with Style Sheets. If there is an entry in the Registry that says "Use StyleSheets", you may need to turn this off or set it to "NO".

Good Luck!

Any particular reason you've decided to reject a correct answer? Have you tried this?

This issue can occur if the style sheets feature is disabled. If a registry entry called "Use StyleSheets" exists, and is set to "No", then the style sheets feature is disabled.

To enable the use of style sheets either remove the entry named "Use StyleSheets" or change the value from "No" to "Yes" by using the following steps:

Click Start , and then click Run.

Type regedit and click OK.

Locate and click the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet/Explorer/Main

If the Use StyleSheets is displayed in the right pane of Registry Editor perform one of the following steps:

To remove this key, right-click Use StyleSheets and click Delete.

-or-

Change the value from "No" to "Yes". To do this double-click Use StyleSheets, change "No" to "Yes", and then click OK.

Close Registry Editor

NOTE: If the entry does not exist, you are able to use style sheets.

In addition, this link is to an articletitled, "Internet Explorer tweak guide". I thought you might find it interesting.
