WinDVD - InterActual Player Problem

By timothy.sharpe ·
We have a number of Dell Latitude C600 laptops that were purchased about 2 years ago. These systems have DVD drives. We ghosted these with our standard Win 2000 image; the image does not include the software to play DVDs. Up to now we have not had a need to play DVDs; now we need to.

I installed InterVideo WinDVD 2.1 from the CD we received from Dell and I also installed the InterActual Player that came bundled with the commercial DVD. When I try to play the DVD I get an error message that says, "Playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem". I visited the Interactual web site and the information on the site indicates that there is no DVD decoder installed. Isn?t WinDVD a decoder? I tried re-booting, re-installing a number of times with the same result. I called Dell but they will not offer support on software issues since it has been more that 30 days since the systems were purchased.

We had this problem when remote desktop sharing was enabled in Netmeeting. Once this was turned off, we were able to play DVD's with no problem.

I Actually did more research on the web. You are correct, I did have Net Meeting remote desktop sharing turned on and WinDVD will not work with that running. I also needed to install Direct X (I installed version 9). After I did those two things it worked. Thanks.
