Until recently, our main network printer (a colour laserjet), was connected to a Win98SE machine and was accessed by Win98SE, Win2k Pro, and WinXP SP2 without problems.

Have you tried to completely uninstall the printer drivers on the SP2 machine, then reinstall them? As your XP machine is replacing the Win98 driver with it's own, have you also tried to download and install the latest driver from the printer manufacturer's website?

Also, I have found that most 'problems' that occurred after SP2 was installed can be eliminated by uninstalling SP2, then re-installing SP2.

Good luck

Yes I have tried uninstall the printer driver and also have checked for updates for that particular driver but it still did not work, I tried unistalling the SP2 which worked. But this problem is for other machines also. Will try reinstalling SP2 again. Any ways we need a proper solution out as it is happening for almost all the machines

After much hair loss, I have found a solution that worked for our network. We have a mixed bag of workstations, and XP Pro SP2 was very very slow printing to a shared printer on Win98.

My fix that seems to work was to go to Add Remove Program|Add/Remove Windows Components|Networking Services| and enable Peer to Peer. Even though we don't use the Windows Firewall, it seems to have resolved our issues.
