winlogon.exe application error (XP)

By jerri.costello ·
When I boot up XP system, immediately a popup appears that says:

WINLOGON.EXE APPLICATION ERROR
0x77d46303 referenced memory at 0x00000008 the memory could not be "read"

Delete or Cancel buttons simply reboot the system and the whole thing starts again.

The same error pops up in safe mode.

I know it's not the memory itself. I tried exchanging it with others that I know are good. I've tried running a full AV and spayware scan but the systems reboots itself after a few minutes.

Help?

winlogon.exe Application error

by n-are In reply to winlogon.exe application ...

I resolved the problem. I changed the frequency of RAM in BIOS from 800 to 400. I have two module of 1 Gb DDR 2 at 800 MHz, but when it set in BIOS at ?Auto? don?t work at all. I put it on ?Manual? and I set it on 400 and now works perfect. Try it.

Try

If you have any USB devices try disconnecting them. Then try booting up. You may need patches for the devices. I had a HP scanner give me the same error. Unplugged it and loaded the patches and it fixed the problem.
