WINS appropiates of a phantom IP number
- WINS was up and running as everuthing else
- Had to change server's LAN CARD, and redo TCP-IP setups (identical to previous), which is:
-TCP-IP address, mask and gateway
-No DHCP
-WINS primary and secondary both pointing toitself on server PC
Upon restarting, network works fine, I checked WINS mapping and found out that PDC/WINS server is known as 1.9.0.184, which is non-existent and not in same domain nor mask
Deleted WINS SERVER and entered correct one, and:
-If I enter PDC name it comes up as NAME(1.9.0.184)
-If I enter IP it comes up twice, with same name, correct IP and same name with phantom IP.
-Same phantom IP also appears on Replication Partners
Stopped service, deleted all of WINS folder, restarted service and immeditely the phantom number appears.
Repeated procedure with no-network (to check if it came from another rep partner) and result is exactly the same.
It is not in HOSTS nor LMHOSTS, does not appear in NBTSTAT, and does not reply to pinging.
Network is working, but first access is sometimes sluggish, and occasionally loses connection to some branch. Login is fine.
Anybody has an answer or a way to clear it?
Thank you
Mike
