WINS crossing subnets

By dmackley ·
I have a WINS server in the DMZ resolving our web servers. I also have two WINS servers on my internal network. I have a push pull between the three, but I am only getting a partial sync. So when your browsing across the subnet you can only reach some of the servers in the DMZ some of time. Here's the kicker only 2000 proffesional clients are having this browsing problem, Windows 98 and NT clients are having no problem browsing.

Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks!!!

Your servers in the DMZ are on static IP's (or should be). You can put these in the tables of the other WINS servers and avoid the sync issue.

A better solution, unless you have a huge network, is make ONE WINS server the primary for all workstations (WINS claims to support 3000 users). Let the others be backups. This will eliminate almost all of your sync problems. You would normally want multiple primary WINS servers only if you were on a WAN, and did not want WINS traffic over a slow link.

Good luck.
