Can anyone advise or point me to a good information source for the following
problem:-
I have installed DHCP, DNS and Wins on a PDC but cannot get the Wins server to respond to requests to convert a netbios name to an ip address I have used Sniffer to prove that the requests are getting to the PDC. Having built an NT4 sp1 workstation with
only TCP/IP(If I use the lmhosts file to add the PDC address I can connect to the PDC).
The DHCP service works (ie I have an IP address and the ip address’s for wins and
DNS appear – ipconfig /all) but when I enter ping
ping
I must be missing something but what? Is there a utility that can check that
wins is functioning? because it looks as if it is working but does not respond to out side calls on its serveices (it appears to work if I ping the server name on the PDC itself.
Help!
