WINS servers problem…..

by steve cody . Updated 25 years, 10 months ago

I have 4 WINS servers on my network. They all replicate with each other. Each of them are set up to use their own address in their TCP/IP setup for the WINS servers. At each server, I can ping a computer by name, and the response is provided by the DNS server, not the WINS server. BUT, at the clients, I can ping a computer by name, and the WINS server answers it.
A ping from the server responds as:
Pinging name.domainname.com (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)

A ping from a WINS client responds as:
Pinging from computername (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)

What is my problem? I don’t have any errors in the System log. I am experiencing some name resolution problems and this is where I am starting to look.
Thanks!
Steve
